Charles John LeGrove, Licensed Victullar, there in 1899 was my gr. grandfather. ***

According to a newspaper article on his 50th wedding anniversary (should be sometime in 1913) CJ worked for Waterlow and Son until 1895; when he took over the Penhurst Arms. He was proprietor for ten years and then he and his wife moved to Leigh-on-Sea. Five years after the 1901 census, my grandfather was on his way to Canada. In between the census and the trip to Canada he spent some time in South Africa. ***
