WICKFORD

Pigot's Essex 1832-3 Trade Directory

Is a small village and parish, in the hundred of Barstable; situated in a hollow, between Billericay and Rayleigh, about six miles distant from either place. There is nothing worthy of note attached to this place, either as regards trade or curiosity. The church is a small building, standing a short distance from the village, in an elevated situation. The parish contains only about 400 inhabitants.

POST OFFICE, Moses Miller, Post Master. - Letters from INGATESTONE arrive (by mail-cart) every morning at half-past two, and are despatched every evening at half-past eight.

COACHES To LONDON, a coach (from Southend), passes through Wickford, every morning at eight and ten; goes through Brentwood, Romford and Ilford.

To SOUTHEND, a coach (from London), passes through Wickford, every evening at a quarter past five and a quarter to six; goes through Rayleigh.

VANS. To LONDON, a Van (from Rochford), passes through Wickford, every Monday and Thursday afternoon.

To ROCHFORD, a Van (from London), passes through Wickford, every Wednesday and Saturday.
