I found a copy of Watney's Red Barrel magazine dated January 1950. It has an article which was an interview with my Grandfather Thomas Heritage. The interview talks about his life and the second page of it gives a better idea of the year he ran the various pubs.
He first started out at the Tower Hamlets Arms in Forest Gate in 1907; later to be transferred to the Devonshire Arms in Mile End. He spent around 26 years at the Devonshire Arms which was bombed out in WWII, and in 1941 he moved on to the Weavers Arms in Islington.  ***
