HARTLIP, a village half a mile south of Watling Street, eight miles from Maidstone, and five from Sittingbourne, west. The population in 1851 was 843. The living is a vicarage, in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Rochester; the Rev. William Fisher, M.A., is the incumbent. Yaugher is half a mile west, and Mears one mile west.
