Melvilles 1858 Directory of Kent.

ORPINGTON is a parish and village in the lathe of Sutton-at-Hone, six miles S.E. from Bromley, and eight from Dartford. The population in 1851 was 1,203. The church, dedicated to All Saints, is of rather a mean appearance, with a low embattled tower. The living comprises a sinecure rectory and a discharged vicarage, with the perpetual curacy of St. Mary Cray annexed, in the patronage of the see of Canterbury.
