WESTWELL is a village adjoining Eastwell, three miles and a half from Ashford, north of that town, in Lathe of Scray, Colehill, Hundred and West Ashford Union, East Kent; the living is a vicarage, in the gift of the Archbishop of Canterbury ; the incumbent is the Rev. John Alexander Ross, M.A.; the church is to the right of the road; there is also a national school here, and the West Ashford union workhouse, with 100 inmates. The population in 1851 was 1,030; the Wesleyans and Baptists have each a
chapel. Dignash is half a mile south; Dann Street half a mile N.B.; Frog Wood and Digg. Farm one mile and a half west; Westwell Leaton two miles west; Nest half a mile south; Castle one mile south; Bevenden one mile and a half south; Shottington half a mile S.E.; Lenaker Street and Goatly Lees one mile and a half S.E.; Sandhurst one mile and a half S.E.
