BAPCHILD is a village, one mile east of Sittingbourne, 12 from Maidstone, and 12
from Rochester. The population in 1851 was 355. Here is a parish church, which
is very ancient. The living is a vicarage, in the gift of the Dean and Chapter
of Chichester; the Rev. J. Bucknor is the vicar. Westone is half a mile S.E.;
Hempstead is a quarter of a mile N.E.; Radfield, one mile east, on Watling
Street; Stone, half a mile north.
