George Palmer, twin son of Mr & Mrs Jim Palmer, of the Ship and Lobster, Gravesend, won the Doggett's Coat and Badge in the 236th race of the series on July 31st. The race was rowed from London Bridge to Chelsea, a four miles and five furlongs course and George won easily. he is on the left of the photograph, with his brother James who won the race in 1947.

Doggett's Coat and Badge was first rowed for in 1747 to commemorate the accession to the throne of George I. Black Eagle Journal (1950).
