SMARDEN is a small town and parish, 9 miles north from Tenterden, and three miles S.E. from Headcorn station. The population in 1851 was 1,102.
The church is a handsome and commodious edifice. The living is a rectory, in the
gift of the Archbishop of Canterbury. There is also a meeting house for dissenters.

POST-OFFICE. - William Gurr, Postmaster. Letters arrive from Cranbrook, which is also the nearest money Order Office.
