SPELDHURST, with LANGTON, LOWER GREEN, and RUSTHALL. Speldhurst is a village and parish, four miles south of Tunbridge
station, and three miles N.W. of Tunbridge Wells. The population in 1851 was
2,859. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The living is a rectory, with the
perpetual curacies of Groombridge and Rusthall annexed, and in the patronage of
Mrs. Harbrae; the Rev. John James Saint, M.A., is the incumbent.
Lower Green is a hamlet, one mile and a half N.W. from Tunbridge Wells; Still
Green is one mile west; Great and Little Farnham, two miles and a half west;
Langton, or Lengthington Green, two miles west; Holmwood, one mile and a half
S.W.
POST-OFFICE, LANGTON. - John Turner, Receiver. Letters arrive from Tunbridge
Wells, which is also the nearest Money Order Office.
Rusthall is one mile N.W., and is a manor of eminence in this parish, from which
the possessors formerly derived their surname. The church of St Paul is a
handsome edifice; the Rev. Benjamin Frederick Smith, M.A., is the officiating
minister.
Letters are received through Tunbridge, which is also the nearest Money Order
Office.
