WALTHAM, styled in ancient records TEMPLE WALTHAM, is a bye village and parish
in the lathe of St. Augustine, hundreds of Bridge and Petham, Wye and Stawling,
and Bridge union, East Kent, and is eight miles from Canterbury; ten N.E. of
Ashford station; five east of Wye station; and 77 from London. The Church of St.
Bartholomew is very ancient; the living is a vicarage united to that of Petham.
Wadden Hall, North Lye, and Thorn, are places in the neighbourhood. The
population, in 1851, was 576. Richdore and Walnuttree are a quarter of a mile
west; Anvil Gree, or Handwell, half a mile north; Bawcombe, one mile north;
Wadden Hall, one mile and a half east; Whittaker Street, three quarters of a
mile south.
