The address was earlier given as 37 St John Street. It was originally called the Hoop & Adze and was rebuilt in its present form in around 1803. The name was changed to Crown at some point between 1862 and 1871. The pub closed in around 1895 – it has now been partially rebuilt and is in residential use. **
