Mitre, Mitre Court, Fleet Street, Holborn

Holborn index

It is believed to have been established in 1546 on land belonging to the Bishops of Ely. The present building dates from around 1772. Part of the reason that this pub makes a patchy appearance in the records is that for many years it received its licence from Ely, not from the local licensing authorities. This anomaly seems to have continued into the early 1970s. **
