The widow running the Alfreds Head in 1881, Maria Cook, was formerly Maria Hughes. Born in 1825 or thereabouts, she married James Cook in Bisham. Her late husband was a Sawyer and Licensed Victualler at the Red Lion, Ealing in 1871, and at Bisham in Berks in 1861.  James Cook, late husband of the Maria who ran the "Alfred's Head" in Stockwell, ran the well-known Bull Inn in Bisham, as did his father (Thomas Cook) before him. **

Her son, Herbert, married in December 1881 to an Alice Teatheradge or Titheredge. They lived at Westmoreland Road in Walworth.
