William John Burren was a beer retailer here in the 1871 census – presumably just a small house at the end of a terrace as depicted on Edward Stanford’s 1862 map. William John died in 1879, but see also the following notes on his younger brother James in connection with the Northey Arms. ***

James Burren junior described himself as licensed victualler at the Northey Arms, Northey Street, Limehouse, at the birth of his son James Martin Burren on 25 November 1877 – source birth certificate – so presumably had taken over from (or working jointly with) his brother William John who was there in 1871 ***
