My g. grandfather Samuel Peter Hanson was born here on 20th Mar 1862. His mother, Eliza Hanson, registered the birth and 1 Devonport Street is also recorded as 'place of residence' on the birth certificate. [Seems the family lodged here, perhaps Eliza also worked here ??]
Father, also Samuel Peter Hanson, was a mariner, born Norway in 1824.
Samuel Peter, Eliza and four children came to New Zealand aboard the SS Electra in 1869. We think that SPH senior worked aboard for their passage out to NZ. Eliza died in 1879; SPH senior 1904 and SPH junior in 1940.
Samuel Peter junior's wife, born Buckinghamshire 1866, came to NZ with her family in 1874.
Recent times for you, but both families are considered early European pioneers in NZ. ! ***
