1851/Edward S Manning/../../../Kellys Directory ****

I have my ancestor’s brother, Austin POWER (12 March 1818), as the Publican of the Crown Tavern, London in the 1851 Census with his wife Harriet BARDENS. Their second son, Alfred Mathew Edward Manning POWER, was born in 1850 whilst there. The eldest son, Austin William Bardens POWER (1847) is staying around the corner there with his mother’s sisters. Their only daughter, Justina Mary POWER (1845) is missing but I spot her when their ship, Fitzjames, arrives in Melbourne on the 7 September 1854. Their twins, Charles Blight POWER (1853) died on the 15 July 1854 on the way out and was buried at sea; Francis Foot POWER (1853), died the following year in Bendigo Gold Fields and Austin’s wife died in 1856. Both she and Francis are buried in White Hills Cemetery Bendigo. They moved to Port Chalmers (Dunedin) in New Zealand on the 8 January 1863 onboard the Dublin. Justina followed in August of that year, married J.J. CONNOR in 1864 and had 13 children before dying in 1937. Austin died on the 9 October 1872 from a heart attack; Austin Junior died in Granville NSW Australia in 1921 and Alfred in Burwood, NSW in 1931. **
