New Chesterfield Arms, 12 West Chapel St, Mayfair, St George Hanover Square

In 1839, listed at Carrington Mews; then the address in the 1843, 1848 & 1851 directories is Shepherd Street, Hereford Street, Mayfair, then at Carrington Mews in 1869; This pub was first licensed in 1737 and seems to have had several early names, including the Ducking Pond, the Dog & Duck and the Crown. In 1769 it was renamed the New Chesterfield Arms. The pub was rebuilt in 1938, and may at that time have taken the name Shepherd's Tavern, the name in use today. The address is today given as 50 Hertford Street, W1. **
