Kings Arms :

Times (London) September 1, 1804. Excerpt :

"Yesterday, at Marlborough Street, a young gentleman was charged with sending a challenge to fight a duel with Mr. Tester, landlord of the King's Arms, Tottenham Court Road. The Defendant had called for some refreshment at the house, and on going into the drinking room on the first floor, ordered the servant to bring him a sheet of writing paper; but on her return he was absent; and on the landlord being informed that he had gone up stairs to his bedroom, some words ensued, when the Defendant felt himself so much offended that he sent a note to the Landlord, which gave him his choice either publicly to beg pardon, or to meet him with a brace of pistols on the ensuing morning at eight o'clock, in the first field leading to Kentish Town. The Defendant was accordingly ordered to find sureties, himself in 200l and two bondmen in 100l each." *

I am quite certain the "Mr Tester" referred to was George Testar who was later publican of the Red Lion, St Johns Road, Clerkenwell (1841) and the Victory Tavern, Edmund Street, Marylebone(1851).
