1861/George John Penney/../../../.. ***

My great great grandfather George John PENNEY was the licensee of the Crown & Dolphin, circa 1862  ( the year before, he was the licensee of THE GEORGE, 1 Portland Street, Soho).  His last child, Francis was born in the pub on 12 August 1862.  The Penney family were resident there until approx 1871.  In the 1871 census, George Penney was registered as the licensee of the MARQUIS OF CORNWALLIS, Old Ford Road, Bow.  His elder children, George Francis and Ann were, by now running the Crown and Dolphin - George Francis had already received an inheritance from his father in 1868 and it seems possible that he bought the pub.  However, in 1872, George John was registered at both pubs. ***
