The Rising Sun tavern at No. 26 High Road was opened about 1830 in a 17th Century red-brick house of 'neat appearance', containing 'much carved work' and 'a plain, old-fashioned staircase'. A music license was obtained in 1851 and the Sun Music Hall built behind the pub. The pub was demolished in 1885 and a restaurant with flats above built in its place. ***
