Ashfield with the Hamlet of Thorpe in Kellys 1879 Directory.

Ashfield is a parish and scattered village 12 miles north from Ipswich and 3 east from Debenham, Eastern division of the county in the Thredling Hundred.
The church of St Mary, in ruins for more than a century, was rebuilt of brick in 1853. Thorpe chapel was rebuilt in 1739, and used as parish church until 1853, and has since been pulled down.
