Barnby is a village and parish, pleasantly situate 4 miles east from Beccles, 6 south west from Lowestoft and 1 mile from the navigable Waveney, in the Eastern division of the County, Mutford Hundred and Union.
The church of St John is a very old thatched building. The register dates from 1701.
