Barsham is a parish and village situate on the south side of the vale of the navigable river Waveney, 2 miles west from Beccles and 4 east from Bungay, in the Eastern divison of the County, Wangford Hundred.
The church of Holy Trinity is an ancient building, having thatched roof and round tower. The register dates from 1558.
The rectory house is an old mansion near the church: the mother of Lord Nelson was born here.

A school, to b supported by voluntary contributions, was erected in 1874, for barsham and adjoining parish of Shipmeadow; Miss Christian Mennie, mistress.
