Bildeston is a small town and parish, 5 miles north by west from Hadleigh station, 75 from London and 10 north east from Sudbury, in the Western division, hundred and union of Cosford. the church of st Mary, about a quarter of a mile from the town, is a large and handsome structure. The register dates from 1558.
The population in 1871 was 808.
