Great Barton is a parish 3 miles north east from Bury st Edmunds and the Linnel Navigation, and 79 from London, in the Western division of the County, Thredwestry Hundred.
The church of Holy Innocents is a handsome flint and stone structure. The register dates from 1558.
Barton Shrub and East Barton lie to the south east; Cattishall Green lies to the south, and Shinham Bridge to the east.
