Guynton 1865 Post Office Directory

GUNTON is a parish, in Mutford and Lothingland incorporation and hundred, county court district of Lowestoft, diocese of Norwich, East Suffolk, a quarter of a mile north by-west from Lowestoft, and 7 ½ south from Yarmouth. The rural deanery of Lothingland, archdeaconry of Suffolk, and church of St. Peter is small, with low round tower. The living is a rectory, annual value £147 10s., with 10 acres of
glebe, held hy the Rev. F. C. Fowler, M.A., of Jesus College, Cambridge, and in the patronage of Robert Cooke
Fowler, Esq., J.P., who is lord of the manor, and owner of the
soil, Gunton is on the coast, and there is a fine view of the
sea from the heath, which is pleasantly situated, affording at all times a delightful promenade for the inhabitants and visitors. The population in 1861 was 73, and the area is 1,072 acres.
