PARHAM is a small but pleasant village and parish, in the hundred and union of
Plomesgate, county court district of Framlingham and Saxmundham, rural deanery
of Loes, archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Ely, East Suffolk, 2 ½ miles
south-east from Framlingham, and 8 from Wood bridge. The church is named St.
Mary. The register commences from 1538. The living is a vicarage, consolidated
with the adjoining parish of Hacheston, annual value £282, in the gift of
Frederick Corrance, Esq., and held by the Rev. Charles Thomas Corrance, M. A.,
of Trinity College. Oxford. Then; is a Parochial school for the education of the
parish children, supported principally by FrederickCorrance, Esq, D.L., of
Parham Hall. The Hall, formerly the seat of the first Earl of Ufford, but now a
farmhouse, contains many relics of antiquity. The Great Eastern Railway passes
through this parish and has a station here. The population in 1861 was 470, and
the area is 2, 212 acres.
