Roebuck Inn, 27 High street, Hastings

This pub is now demolished. The pub was closed by the police in 1918 for serving people out of the permitted hours, which was an offence under the Defence of the Realm Act. It was the pub's second such offence. I don't know when the original building was pulled down, but it left a "scar" on the wall of the building next door for many years. A photo of the pub can be found here; and by 1980 the scar left through it's demolition, possibly circa 1980. The original property was acquired by Hastings Council – it was certainly closed by 1967 when it eventually became a doctor’s surgery. **
