At Fountain Place in 1878 & earlier.
This sea front pub was built in 1837 and is now called the Marina Fountain to
avoid confusion with another Fountain pub in Queen's Road 2 miles away (see
Hastings list). A very popular pub with the young and not so young, the Fountain
is a well patronised biker and everyone else friendly pub with live rock music
most weekends and often other types of music at other times. Raised stage area
with pool table on it when no bands are playing. Regular quiz nights are also a
feature. No special facilities for the disabled, but double doors and everything
on one level, so I can't forsee any problems except for narrow toilet doors.
Disabled people often do use the pub, but can usually walk short distances. This
pub is worth a visit if only to gawp at the splendid array of superb motorbikes
often parked outside, the chopped motorbike on stage and Fred Flintstone's old
motorcycle in the beer garden. Beer garden/child's play area at rear with
fascinating example of heavy Victorian civil engineering holding up the cliff
behind the pub which may be related to this
1863 event:
Landlady Stephenie Beale runs, what in my opinion, is the best pub for many
miles, certainly the best in the Hastings/St Leonards area. I have no connection
with this pub other than as a very satisfied customer who regularly travels
three miles to get there, passing at least thirty other pubs on the way. ***
