James Abbott (1834-1899) was my great grandfather and he leased The Tavern from his uncle in June 1861. In fact he and his wife Matilda lived there, and my grandfather was born there in September 1861, followed by three sisters and four brothers until 1874.  In 1874 The Tavern was leased on to Robert Mann for a term of 73 years. Prior to this, James Robert, a licensed victualler himself, had lived at 31 Coleman street in the City, i.e. the Fountain & Star .
