On 3rd July 1848 the licence of “the Stag” in Dorset Street was transferred
to David Crofts (previous licensee of the
Prospect Inn, Prospect
Place Margate) by John Crawford. At the time of the 1951 census he is shown
as a licensed victualler at 29 Dorset Street, Marylebone, Middlesex. His
barman, potman, house servant, servant and nurse maid were also all born in
Margate. David Crofts dies in 1853 and Elizabeth continues to hold the licence.

The Times reports on 15th May 1855 that father Thomas Dunn is involved in an
action against daughter Elizabeth Crofts (nee Dunn); seemingly in respect of
the estate of David Crofts. Elizabeth Crofts surrenders the license for “the
Stag” in Dorset Street to William Reeves on 5th November 1855. Thomas Dunn
is my G G G Grandfather and Elizabeth my G G G Aunt ***
